History sediments in layers, and nowhere is it more visible than in the architecture of places such as Schloss Hollenegg. Since the 11th century, the many owners of Hollenegg have built, repaired and added to the castle and its structure. The different styles and the people’s needs overlap to form a surprisingly coherent whole, and the architecture becomes a mould for the glass.
While in residence in Hollenegg, Antrei 3D scanned details of the architecture in the loggias and staircases of the castles. The scans were then used to create glassblowing moulds made of many thin milled wood sheets. In this way, the structure and details of the surface are repeated on the surface of the glass, so the layers of history merge together. The resulting vases are made to embrace and rest on columns, steps and balustrades. The colours of the glass mimic the subtle and layered tones of the walls. Once filled with water, the vessels act as lenses trough which to discover intricate architectural details, mouldings and shapes that often go unnoticed.
